Dr. Dread, formerly Cyok, is a top Pikachu and Falco main from Tennessee. He is the best Falco main in the club, along with the best Pikachu. He is considered the second best player at the school where the club is hosted. Dr. Dread is famous for his expansive character roster, which includes secondaries such as Ice Climbers, Peach, and Sheik. He doesn't tend to use these characters in tournaments, although he has a huge roster of effective characters to play with. Along with being a competitor in The Smash Burros tournaments, he also runs the club, running numerous successful brackets for Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS.

Dr. Dread also attends tournaments outside of The Smash Burros. He is one of three players in the club to consistently do this.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Origin

Dr. Dread was introduced to competitive Smash Bros. through Static and Phobia in early 2015. In late 2014, they had been playing Smash 4 on the 3DS together, but they started playing Melee in spring 2015. Inspired by professional Melee player Axe, Dr. Dread picked up Pikachu, and started maining the character. At first, he considered Young Link to be his secondary character, but has since started using other characters, primarily Falco. After months of playing Melee seriously, he started bringing his laptop to the library, where he played Melee with other people there. This group of players became the players who consistently attend the club, which Dr. Dread set up in May of 2016.

The Smash Burros

Dr. Dread had attended a library tournament and lost to Static, but he had still placed above everyone else, making him a threat going into the first tournament held by his club. However, the strange structure of the bracket ended him hurting him, eliminating him much earlier than expected. The tournament was single-elimination, and seeding was non-existent -- who you faced was based on who wrote their name down on a piece of paper next to yours. This lead to Dr. Dread encountering a very talented player, Junior, early on in bracket. Junior's Fox ended up defeating Dr. Dread 2 - 0, with a Fox ditto game and a Falco versus Fox game. Junior went on to nearly defeat Phobia, performing wildly out of expectations. The early defeat helped Dr. Dread focus on organizing the tournament, and it didn't change the club's opinion of his skill level. Dr. Dread was still one of the best players in the club, but unfortunate bracket structure had led to his early elimination. Dr. Dread needed another shot.

The Smash Burros II

Dr. Dread had an unfortunate first tournament, but the second installment of The Smash Burros allowed him to try again. His second run started strong, with a 2 - 0 over Julian. This put him straight into winners semifinals against Static, a rematch from the first tournament ever held at the library. The set was close, and it was a display of the technicality of both Static and Dr. Dread. It was also the first match to be filmed in the club. Dr. Dread ended up losing the set 0 - 2, dropping into losers bracket. Waiting for him there was a mysterious opponent: 8BitCal, a student from the same school as Static. He was unknown to everyone at the tournament except Dr. Dread, Static, and Phobia, who knew his playstyle through fighting on netplay. 8BitCal used his Sheik against Dr. Dread for the first match, and Dr. Dread was able to win. But, unexpectedly, 8BitCal selected Samus, knowing that Dr. Dread has a dislike for the character. This character switch won 8BitCal the second game. Tied 1 - 1, Dr. Dread managed to conquer 8BitCal's Samus, moving on in the bracket. His next match was against Dream, and it was unknown who would won. Dr. Dread had the advantage, but Dream had a chance, having taken games off him at the library before. Dr. Dread lost to Dream in an 0 - 2 defeat, infamously getting hit by a forward smash while in shield to lose the second game. Dr. Dread finished at fourth.

The Smash Burros III

Dr. Dread had gained a reputation at this point to be able to "beat anyone, but lose to anyone." Although he can play great in certain situations, he hadn't played great at a tournament yet. When The Smash Burros III happened, it had been a whole summer, so the results were expected to change. Dr. Dread jumped into the tournament with a 2 - 0 over Anthony -- a tough opponent, but clearly the underdog in a match versus a player like Dr. Dread. His win over Anthony put him straight into winners semifinals, where he faced Static again. The result was an 0 - 2 loss for Dr. Dread, in a set similar to the one they played in the previous tournament. This sent Dr. Dread into losers bracket, where he was up to fight Hiku, who had just won two sets in a row and was looking to continue his hot streak in losers. Unfortunately, Dr. Dread lost 0 - 2 to Hiku's Fox. His Falco lost the first game, but he decided to keep using Falco in the second game. An early SD at the start of game two didn't help Dr. Dread's mentality, but he managed to turn it up and almost defeated Hiku in a last-stock, last-hit situation. Dr. Dread finished at fifth.

Late 2016

Dr. Dread still held his reputation of underperforming in tournaments, but he was finally able to have a stellar tournament performance at The Smash Burros V, where he placed second, below only Phobia. For the third time, he lost to Static in winners semis, but this time things didn't go as predictably in the losers bracket, where he defeated Kick and Hiku to rematch Static in losers finals. Dr. Dread decided to switch to Ice Climbers after going down 0 - 1 with Falco, and it worked, giving Dr. Dread his first win over Static at a The Smash Burros tournament. As late 2016 continued, Dr. Dread continued to have inconsistency in tournament; at The Smash Burros VI, he again lost to Hiku to place an underwhelming fifth. His inconsistency continued, but an impressive third place finish at The Smash Burros X including two close sets with Exodus show that he still has the potential to go ballistic.
